Bubsy: Paws on Fire Delayed to April; Accolade Launching Kickstarter for DLC

Bubsy: Paws on Fire is the next entry in the cult platformer, releasing this April. While it’s still a few months out, Accolade is launching a Kickstarter for a DLC campaign for this upcoming, unreleased title. And no, the Bubsy Kickstarter isn’t coming after Paws on Fire!‘s launch – it’s happening tomorrow.

$25 thousand USD is the funding goal for this DLC’s Kickstarter, called Spicy Extras. Depending on which tier you choose to fund, the Kickstarter will include (among other rewards) the full Paws on Fire! game, a collection of Bubsy Games and another collection of Runner Games, as well as an OST. Paws on Fire! is developed Choice Provisions, the crew known for the well-received Bit.Trip series, which is why Runner games are included in some of the tiers.

Stretch goals include new costumes, a new character, levels, and a brand new boss. The new character should be obvious to Bit.Trip fans. It’s not specified right now, but the silhouette appears to be Bit.Trip‘s protagonist, Commander Video.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire launches this April. For a brief synopsis, check out the description of the above video:

Bubsy is back in his greatest adventure yet! Featuring four playable characters with their own unique playstyles, new moves never before seen in a Bubsy title, and over 100 levels, Paws on Fire is a game for Bubsy lovers and haters alike!

The Spicy Extras Kickstarter launches February 5th, 2019. You can check out the campaign’s page here when it goes live.

If you were wondering how Bubsy’s last trip out went, we reviewed that when it came out in 2017 and if you want to learn more about Bubsy’s history we covered that in an article before the 2017-fueled revival of the character as part of a series on failed mascots.

Quick Take

I’d just like to reiterate. This is a Kickstarter for a DLC. The DLC is for an unreleased game, still two months out. I think Kickstarter is ruined forever. But on a serious note (and I was slightly serious), I have to wonder if this is a marketing plan to get more exposure to the game. That, or the developers are so sure the game is going to bomb that they won’t get any funding for the DLC from the base game’s sales. Still, knowing that the developers behind Bit.Trip are making this game, we could be on to something here. But I’m really not quite sure what to think other than how ridiculous a Kickstarter for DLC is.

The queen’s treasures have been stolen! The thief was last seen running through the winding maze of the castle, dropping them along the way!
